I'm a procrastinator... I admit it. But WHY do things have to stop working
just because I waited to the last minute to make our costumes? I was so close too. Luckily, the boys don't care that the costumes look like garbage, they think they are so cool, I guess that's what matters.
Let me start at the beginning... I hate Halloween. I know I'm a big party pooper, but really, I just don't like it and I never have. Even when I was a kid and liked eating tons of candy I would only trick or treat down one or two streets and be done. My brothers thought I was crazy. Jump to now, I still don't like it. However, I do like to make things, so I try to make my kids costumes to "get in the spirit" but because of my aversion to all things Halloween, I put it off... every year. Wednesday I got around to preshrinking the fabric and yesterday I
made myself start cutting it out. Trouble with my plan hit when I couldn't find my pattern. My house is acutally in pretty good order right now too, which makes it even more frustrating. So, I start with Bryant's and I'm just shooting from the hip... guess on the size, based on some of his clothes. I start sewing and it doesn't look quite right, so I adjust and then I call my mom to ask a question she tried to explain to me how to cut a sleeve but my brain just couldn't remember enough to make sense of it. When I woke up at 4 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep I figured it out but I decided to make the other boys costumes first, because Bryant
can can just wear a shirt under his costume to get the sleeves.
I was able to get Jonas' done with only having to unpick one thing. I am not a perfectionist by any means when it comes to my kids' costumes (remember I don't like Halloween) so I'm sure if some of you had been making these costumes you'd have wanted to fix several things. Well, I got Jo's mostly done but decided to start Levi's so that they could all at least have the basics of their costumes if I ran out of time and couldn't
finish. I was 24 inches from finishing the inseam of Levi's costume when my sewing machine decided it would stop working... I tried everything I could think of to fix it... but no luck. So, I sewed the inseam by hand-yes that's right, I pulled out my needle and thread and went back to the 19th century. We tried the costumes on and all I needed was a couple of pins to make them work (they are definitely UNfinished-no hems, for instance-but they would work). We have a whole baggie full of safety pins of various sizes. I went to the drawer where they've been kept and low and behold they are not there, nor are the thousand other places I've since checked and as much as I love my chilluns, I'm not taking them all the WalMart to buy some stupid safety pins for stupid Halloween.
So, we missed trick or treating at the med group on base, but I didn't want to go anyway once Ethan told me he woudln't be able to go with us. I've asked him to stop and get some safety pins to hold the costumes together and if we're lucky some makeup so Bryant can complete his look. Maybe we'll even make it to our trunk or treat. We'll see how it goes... sorry to spread my "cheer" I'm just keeping it real. :)
And yes, feel free to judge me on my bad attitude and on my procrastination. I know all this trauma could have been avoided, but it wasn't and I
On a happier note, I
do love FALL. And we were able to go to a pumpkin patch for FHE this week. Here are some cute pictures of our fun!

Jonas spent like 10 minutes checking this dog out and then he really wanted to sit on his lap.

Bryant was really weirded out by the bumps on some of these pumpkins... he was pretty nervous to touch it.
